Bringing knowledge to children and children to God
Personal Finance
CLASS OFFERINGS
LESSON 1
The purpose of this course is to teach you essentially everything you need to know to avoid financial dificulties, and to be honest, all the basic information is contained in this very first lesson.
Of course, you can't use what you can't remember, so the only thing we require for you to earn an "A" in this class is be able to state the seven behaviors identified by Dave Ramsey without referring to your notes or any other form of assistance.
Realize however that such knowledge will be of absolutely no use whatsoever unless you actually act on it and apply it to your life accordingly.
LESSON 2
Think about it...if you make purchases using funds you don't yet have, it will be virtually impossible for you to ever become financially stable because your money, for all practical purposes, will be gone before you even earn it. In this, our second personal finance lesson, Katilette shares how she and he husband were tricked by the allure of credit cards, and how much better life is having escaped their grasp.
LESSON 3
Many of us make the mistake of thinking we own everything we have when, in reality, we are just stewards given the responsibility of managing the resources God puts in our hands until He tells us what to do with them.
LESSON 4
This is a full fledged church service, so get ready to worship God as you ready yourself to receive His wisdom in relation to money and wealth.
LESSON 5
According to Gordon Gecko, "Greed is good." However, the Bible teaches that greed is sin and explicitly says not to store up treasures for ourselves. Should we therefore conclude it is wrong to save? Note that the passage does not say we shouldn't store up treasures...but that we shouldn't store up treasures for ourselves. Other passages state that a good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children and that the rich should be generous and ready to share.
It would therefore seem that the problem is not in having, but rather, in keeping it all for ourselves. Moreover, 1 Timothy 6:17 admonishes those that are wealthy not to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God. So, if one amasses money to avoid having to depend on God, that too is a problem.
And of course, if money interferes with our ability to follow Jesus, as was the case with the rich young ruler, that is perhaps the biggest problem of all, numbering us among those who, because of the love of it, pierce themselves with many griefs.
LESSON 6
If you are a citizen of the United States of America, chances are...you are rich, relatively speaking.
