Every student needs to be able to recognize complete and incomplete sentences. Of course, for a sentence to be a sentence, it must meet three condtions, one of which is the presence of a predicate, which is usually a verb. Consequently, one of the initial skills students need to develop is the ability to identify words that are verbs.

Also, we find that for some students who experience difficulty identifying the noun in a sentence, it is easier for them to meet that challenge seccessfully by first identifying the verb, and then see who or what it is that is doing the action.
