Central to the Chirstian faith is the gospel message or "good news," summarized briefly in this video clip featuring Pastor Mark Driscoll.

However, to fully apprerciate one's need for salvation, one must recognize that God is not only forgiving and merciful, but also righteous and just, and will therefore judge and punish sin. This also requires one to understand  the reality of  hell, where those covicted by God will be sentenced for all eternity.
